Staying Healthy at Work


It can be difficult to maintain a health regimen when you are working full time and are constantly on the go.

Our root chakras are usually taxed throughout the workweek – this is the chakra that fuels our physical body and gives us energy.

Here are some tips to keep you and your root chakra on track during the workweek:

1. Prepare Your Meals At Home
Even though we live in an era where healthy meal options are becoming more readily available, the best way to control our diet is to prepare our own meals. This way we can be completely in charge of the ingredients and know exactly what we’re consuming.

I find this to be especially important for those monitoring their sugar intake – natural or otherwise. It’s common for a lot of outside “healthy options” such as salads and stir-fry dishes to have sauces that are loaded with sugar. In addition, while you may think having a salad is a healthy choice, if it contains veggies that are on the dirty dozen list, it’s best that they be consumed organic. Preparing your own salad at home will ensure that your greens are organic and your dressing is healthy.

To save on time, consider
– Pre-washing any veggies you plan to use for juicing or making salads
– Making batches of different salad dressings to use throughout the week
– Pre-making sauces (e.g. pasta or stir fry sauces) and freezing them
– Creating a meal plan so that you can have the necessary ingredients available when you need them

2. Stock a Drawer at Work with Healthy Snacks & Sweets
I have a drawer at work where I keep my healthy snacks. I am particularly fond of coconut chips, naturally sweetened organic granola bars, organic dark chocolate and healthy protein bars for when I need something a little more substantial. Keeping these snacks on hand will resist any urges you have for going to a local coffee shop and choosing an unhealthy baked good.

3. Brew Organic Coffee
I’ve started to brew organic coffee in my office. This is a far healthier option than coffee prepared by your local Starbucks. If you don’t want to brew a large amount, you can always use a French press to brew a cup just for yourself. For more on regular coffee and its toxicity, click here.

4. Stay Hydrated During the Day
A lot of offices have poor circulation and tend to be pretty dry, so it’s really important to stay hydrated. I was able to ask my office to install a reverse osmosis filtration system so we could consume healthy filtered water throughout the day.

5. Stay Active During Breaks
We all spend way too much time sitting at our desks. Try to get into the swing of taking a short walk during lunch or at some point during the workday – the fresh air will do wonders for you.

You can also try to implement some gentle exercise, such as yoga. My office converts our boardroom into a yoga studio for 20 minutes three times a week during the lunch hour. We switch on a yoga app that is connected to the boardroom TV – it’s a wonderful way to de-stress and stretch out our stiff muscles.

A healthy lifestyle does take a lot of work and a strong commitment – but when your skin is glowing and you feel energized, it’s a small price to pay. The key is to stay organized and take joy in nourishing yourself. 🙂
