Tips for a Good Night's Sleep
Most of us have faced some sleepless nights or mornings where we wake up feeling less than rejuvenated. Here are some tips to assist with rest, relaxation and a good night’s sleep:
Lay Your Worries to Rest
Before we go to sleep, we tend to focus on what is worrying us or what we are stressed out about. Instead of this, think about things that you are grateful for, the positive things in your life, and your wishes/dreams for the future (without worrying how they will come to fruition).
Keep Your Bedroom For Relaxation
Your bedroom should be used for rest and relaxation. While this isn’t always possible, if you do have a desk in your room or use your room for other things, try to keep your bed area for the purpose of rest and relaxation as opposed to activities such as working or studying. When you bring that active energy to what is supposed to be a restful place, it can affect your ability to sleep.
Meditate Before You Sleep
It is useful to meditate before sleeping if your mind is overactive at the end of the day. Be careful what you choose as some meditations are stimulating in their effects. For instance, transcendental meditation should generally not be practiced beyond 6 p.m. as it will keep you up at night. Try using gentle, guided meditations or soothing sounds.
Use a Lavender Sachet or Mist Spray
Lavender has long been known for its benefits in assisting with rest and relaxation. You can keep a sachet of lavender under your pillow or you can use a lavender mist spray in your room or on your pillows and sheets.
Use Crystals that Assist with Rest & Relaxation
There are a variety of crystals that can be used for rest and relaxation. You can keep them under your pillow while you sleep. Fluorite is good for anxiety and stress. Lepidolite is great for keeping worry away. Blue Lace Agate calms and soothes.
Take a Sea Salt Bath
If you have the time, try taking a warm sea salt bath before you sleep. Sea salt is rich in magnesium, which assists with muscle relaxation. For more relaxation, add some drops of lavender essential oil.
