How Transcendental Meditation Can Help You

Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a form of meditation that involves the repetition of a mantra (provided by a guru (spiritual teacher)) twice a day for 20 minutes. It was originally founded by the Indian guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and has become quite popular today.

Many celebrities practice TM, including Oprah, Paul McCartney, Katy Perry, Russel Brand, and Emily VanCamp. They all claim that TM helps them to cope with their busy and stressful lives.

Research has indicated that TM can assist in reducing anxiety and stress. It has also been linked with reduced blood pressure and obesity.

I began my practice of TM during law school. I was on adrenal overdrive during that time of my life and wanted something to help me feel balanced and less anxious. I diligently practiced TM twice a day and noticed immediate benefits. I was less anxious, less stressed, more grounded, and noticed that my addictive behaviours (shopping and having too much sugar) reduced as well. I also found a huge difference in mental clarity and focus, which rendered me a more productive student.

In addition, my intuition and sixth sense increased significantly, which continues to benefit me as an energy healer. I often pick up on key emotions or events in peoples lives that underly their imbalance. I do credit TM and consistent energy work for this ability and firmly believe that everyone can develop this for themselves.

From an energy medicine perspective, TM works on all of your chakras. Other forms of meditation typically only target the third eye and crown chakras, which in some cases might cause those chakras to be over-charged, creating an imbalance in your energy fields. The classic prototype of a person who has this issue is what new agers are stereotypically represented as – not grounded, floaty, “up in the clouds” etc.

So if you’re looking for a comprehensive form of meditation that targets all of your chakras and has spiritual, physical, mental and emotional benefits, I highly recommend learning TM. You’ll be amazed at what it can do for you.
